Position Summary

The Director of Information Technology is a new role reporting to the President and responsible for global IT strategy and execution. S/he will lead the development of our IT roadmap and lead a multi-year transformation of Search IT capabilities to deploy an integrated suite of global SaaS and custom software solutions that automate core business process, increase employee productivity, support compliance, and protect our cybersecurity world wide.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record selecting, deploying, and integrating modern SaaS computing systems and the leadership ability to manage a primarily outsourced IT department. We’re looking for a creative IT leader who has experience with the operational challenges that face a global organization working developing countries and fragile states and the constraints of the NGO sector.  

Search is pursuing a modern IT strategy based on the integration selected SaaS software platforms and targeted custom system development. We have begun implementation of a roadmap and are looking for a leader who can refine and deliver on the strategy. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Defines IT roadmap and strategy for the organization 
  • Selects and manages IT service providers including partners for help desk, business system implementation, system integration, and custom application development 
  • Ensures employees are trained and supported to make full use of IT systems 
  • Establishes IT standards globally and works with country programs to select local IT partners and local capacity for IT support and services 
  • Develops and manages the IT budget and works with finance and program leadership to make the business case for IT capabilities and services to donors 
  • Works with global management to identify IT solutions to organizational and individual departmental needs and support the adoption of technologies. 
  • Manages a global cybersecurity strategy to protect Search from cyberattacks.  
  • Drives innovation by recommending new solutions and new ideas across the organization, designed to meet the future challenges of our operations.

Desired Outcomes

  • Refine and finalize a multi-year IT roadmap that addresses the Search operating needs within the boundaries of the organization’s resource constraints. 
  • Successfully manage the outsourced design, development, and implementation of a custom grants management system that increases the Search fundraising capacity. 
  • Selection, implementation, and integration of a suite of SaaS business solutions that automate financial management, grants management, and human capital management functions. 
  • Manage the implementation of an IT roadmap that includes deploying key SaaS, and when necessary custom solutions for important business functions.
  • Create the partnerships necessary to ensure that employees across search have well managed, supported, and secure endpoint computing solutions in every office. 

Ideal Experience

  • 10+ years of experience in IT senior leadership 
  • Proven track record managing outsourced IT vendors and services
  • Experience selecting and integrating modern cloud systems for >500 employees 
  • Demonstrated ability to manage the development of custom software solutions
  • Ability to analyze business needs and identify IT solutions 
  • Clear understanding of how to work within constraints of an NGO funding model
  • Strong experience with agile principles and methodologies 
  • Demonstrated experience in successful change management initiatives
  • Experience with IT operations in the US, EU, and developing countries 
  • Fluency in English is required and additional fluency in French or Arabic is beneficial

    • Communication –  writes and presents clearly and able to communicate complex concepts succinctly and powerfully to technical and non-technical audiences
    • Resourcefulness - able to find creative solutions within budget constraints to deliver IT results at without excessive costs 
    • Pragmatism - finds solutions that are appropriate to the needs and requirements without over complication or over engineering
