Position summary

SFCG in Sudan has recently been awarded two projects to promote social cohesion, peacebuilding and women’s participation in peace and security in South and West Kordofan, as well as in Blue Nile, Al Qadarif and Kassala. Hence SFCG is looking for a short-term program officer to support day-to-day implementation of the activities under these two projects. Based in Khartoum, with punctual travel to the project locations, the short-term Consultant will support SFCG’s Country Director with the planning, implementation and reporting on project activities.

Key responsibilities

Specific tasks will include, but will not limit to the following:

  • Develop and maintain updated work plans project activities, and oversee the effective implementations of planned activities to the highest results and in a timely manner. 
  • Ensure progress on all activities, including research activities, liaising with key local stakeholders, project partners and possible external consultants. 
  • Conduct punctual field visits, attending different project activities to ensure their quality, and communicating with the key local stakeholders to create/maintain trust and engagement.
  • Assist with the management of sub-grantees, helping them to keep updated work plans and ensuring a smooth implementation and monitoring of their deliverables, as well as timely and quality reporting. 
  • Prepare activity and quarterly narrative reports for donors in English, in collaboration with SFCG’s regional team and HQ.
  • Oversee the monitoring and evaluation aspects of the projects, working with the DME staff of SFCG and its partners, the Regional DME Specialist to ensure that M&E frameworks are in place and implemented to document progresses towards the project’s (un-)intended results.
  • Support the identification and preparation of contract agreements with consultants, experts or any contractors as needed for the projects. 
  • Support the administrative and logistical arrangements for the implementation of program activities. 
  • Assist with communication and visibility aspects of the Sudan program, through written material, photos, success stories, updated web site, social media and traditional media.
  • Assist with translation of key project documents, from Arabic to English
  • Assist the National Director and project team with other tasks as needed

Timeline
This consultancy is for an initial three-month duration, renewable. Interested candidates should be available to start on 17 June 2018.

Consultancy Fee

A monthly consultancy fee will be established, commensurate with the selected candidate’s experience.

Requirements of the consultant

The applications received will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

  • Sudanese national.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in international development, conflict resolution, project management or related field.

Experience

  • At least five years of INGO or CSO experience in project implementation or management in Sudan. Experience working in South and/or West Kordofan is an asset.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and effective communication with a variety of stakeholders. 

Competencies and Skills

  • Proficiency in English and Arabic (written and spoken).
  • Strong and proven ability in report writing in English.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, as well as social media platforms.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and effective communication with a variety of stakeholders. 
  • Cultural sensitivity and strong interest in dialogue, peacebuilding and conflict transformation.
  • Willingness to travel to remote areas.
