Project Coordinator
Sittwe – Myanmar (7 months)

Position Summary
Search is seeking a dynamic and proactive project coordinator with in-depth understanding of conflict sensitivity and project implementation in challenging contexts, notably Rakhine state. Based in Sittwe, the Project Coordinator will ensure the effective implementation of Search Myanmar’s newest project in Rakhine State. The Project Coordinator, reporting to the Project Manager, will be responsible to ensure activities are implemented in a smooth and timely manner. The project coordinator will work with Search Myanmar’s Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, Operations and Finance team to ensure that activities are well planned and budgeted, that any implementation challenges are anticipated and communicated, and that project progress is well documented.

In Myanmar, Search's approach is to support locally led processes at different levels of society in order to transform local level conflict. Search Myanmar has been supporting an inclusive peace process at the local level, social cohesion nationwide, and skills building and trust building with and between a multitude of stakeholders, including government, the private sector, the media, and civil society including women, youth and minorities. Search Myanmar works with local partners across six states and three regions to support Myanmar in its priorities of peace, development and democratic change.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leading on the effective planning, implementing, budgeting and documenting of project activities, working closely with the M&E, Finance and Operations teams at Search Myanmar.
- Be proactive in identifying and responding to implementation challenges.
- Ensure effective communication between the team in Rakhine and Yangon.
- Liaise with Search Myanmar’s EU-funded Rakhine project team to identify possible synergies between the two projects.
- Organize, attend and participate in all relevant stakeholder meetings.
- Document and follow up on important actions and decisions from meetings.
- Prepare necessary presentation materials for meetings.
- Ensure project deadlines are met.
- Assess project risks, anticipate implementation challenging and determine project changes.
- Work closely with the Project Manager to ensure effective communication with the prime partner on this project as well as the donor.
- Line manage the field officer who will be based in Sittwe.
- Prepare TORs and contracts for project stakeholders.
- Develop and maintain excellent relationships with all stakeholders including government, media, local civil society and partners to further Search’s mission in country
- Keep abreast of and navigate the conflict dynamics in target locations.
- Able to negotiate relations in a highly complex, fast-moving institutional context, cooperating with multiple stakeholders.
- Willingness to work within a flexible working schedule (weekday and weekend shifts) and travel to the project’s target areas
- As job descriptions cannot be exhaustive, the position-holder may be required to undertake other duties that are broadly in line with the above key responsibilities.
Qualifications
Education
- MA/S or equivalent in social science, economics, peacebuilding, management, governance, international development or other relevant field
Experience
- 5 years proven experience in managing projects with specific experience in project cycle management including compliance and financial management skills
- At least 5 years of demonstrable experience in a similar role.

- A positive personality, who sees challenges as growth and learning, and proactively finds solutions to problems.
- Ability to assess, analyze and reflect changing circumstances of project stakeholders.
- Excellent leadership and management skills with good understanding of motivating and building teams including remote management.
- Demonstrated attention to detail and procedures, and able to meet deadlines and work independently and cooperatively with team members.
- Knowledge and understanding of the challenges faced across different ethnic states and regions of Myanmar, notably of the Rakhine context.
- Understanding and proven experience of negotiation and finding collaborative solutions to diverse or conflicting perspectives.
- Ability to work cross-culturally and communicate effectively.
- A high level of personal efficiency, motivation, and the ability to balance multiple urgent or important tasks without undue stress and to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent written and spoken Myanmar and English.
- Good working knowledge of ITC technologies
- Excellent command of English in speaking and writing
Desired
- Fluency in Myanmar and local language specific to conflict affected context of Rakhine
